HireVue vs Paradox: which is better for healthcare hiring?

Updated September 2026

HireVue and Paradox both sell into healthcare, both name hospital systems as customers, and both get shortlisted by the same talent teams. They do different jobs. HireVue started with video interviewing and now adds assessments, scheduling and a voice AI Interviewer. Paradox is a conversational assistant that engages, screens and schedules over chat and SMS, and it is now owned by Workday. We build Ployo, which competes with both, so we are not a neutral party; everything below about HireVue and Paradox comes from their own pages, checked on 10 September 2026.

The short answer

Choose HireVue if you want to assess candidates at scale: recorded video interviews that fit clinical shift patterns, validated skill assessments designed for healthcare, and now a voice AI Interviewer that runs 24/7. Choose Paradox if your problem is responsiveness and logistics: its healthcare customers report large cuts in scheduling time and interviews booked after hours by text, and if you run Workday it is now a first-party option. Neither substitutes for the other. If you want the interview itself done live, on video, with every applicant, and a verdict you can check against the transcript, Ployo is the third option: Sarah, Ployo's AI interviewer, interviews each applicant the day they apply inside a built-in applicant tracking system, from US$249 a month.

One assesses, one coordinates

The fastest way to choose is to name the problem. If applicants wait days for a reply and interviews slip because nobody can book them, that is a logistics problem, and it is what Paradox's assistant Olivia is built for: screening for minimum qualifications, instant scheduling and answering the same questions around the clock. If you can reach everyone but cannot tell the qualified applicants apart, that is an assessment problem, and it is HireVue's ground: interviews, assessments and now an AI Interviewer that asks and listens.

A large health system often has both problems, which is why these two turn up on the same shortlist even though they rarely replace each other.

What HireVue brings to a healthcare team

HireVue's healthcare page offers on-demand video interviewing for healthcare workers with non-traditional schedules, an AI Interviewer, validated skill assessments designed for healthcare, and self-scheduling. It covers administrative, clinical and high-volume caregiver hiring, including nursing and physician roles, and names Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics and Beacon Healthcare System.

The AI Interviewer comes from HireVue's March 2026 acquisition of Hireguide's technology. HireVue describes it as a natural two-way voice conversation that runs 24/7, delivers recruiter-ready shortlists, and integrates with 45+ ATSs, and it reports an 86% candidate completion rate. HireVue was founded in 2004 and lists 40+ languages. It does not publish pricing.

What Paradox brings to a healthcare team

Paradox's healthcare page describes 24/7 SMS and chat engagement, mobile-first applications, conversational screening, automated scheduling and rescheduling, candidate surveys and onboarding automation. The results it publishes are about speed and cost: a 97% reduction in scheduling time at Essentia Health, 60% of Houston Methodist's scheduled interviews arriving through after-hours engagement, and lower cost per hire at MultiCare and The Good Care Group. UnitingCare also appears in its healthcare customer list.

Its video product captures recorded video responses in the conversation and hosts in-browser live video interviews. Workday completed its acquisition of Paradox on 1 October 2025 and now presents it as the Candidate Experience agent in Workday's recruiting suite. Paradox does not publish pricing.

Which one for which healthcare hiring problem

Pick Paradox when the hard part is reaching applicants fast enough and getting interviews booked, especially overnight and at weekends, and above all if you already run Workday. Pick HireVue when the hard part is deciding between candidates who all clear the minimum bar, when you want assessments as well as interviews, or when recorded interviews that managers review later suit your clinical leaders' calendars.

If you are buying both, draw the line clearly: logistics and eligibility with the assistant, assessment with the interview platform, and never the same questions asked twice.

Where Ployo fits

For transparency: we build Ployo, and it competes with both. Ployo is recruitment software with a built-in applicant tracking system and an AI video interviewer that interviews every applicant the day they apply. Sarah, Ployo's AI interviewer, runs a live two-way video interview: the candidate is on camera, the follow-up questions come from what they said, and it works in 23 languages at any hour. Your team gets a Met or Not Met verdict on the must-haves with the candidate's own words quoted, plus the recording and transcript, and a person makes every decision. Ployo never auto-rejects anyone.

That puts it between the two. Like HireVue, it interviews and records. Like Paradox, it reaches every applicant straight away without a recruiter. Unlike both, it publishes pricing: Essential $249 a month, Growth $850 and Scale $2,135 in US dollars, with interviews included and no per-seat charge.

Where it is not the answer: Ployo does not send SMS, schedule human or panel interviews, or run psychometric assessments. If those are the requirement, choose between HireVue and Paradox on the lines above.

Where this sits

HireVue is a layer 4 tool: one-way async video. The candidate records answers to fixed prompts, alone, with no one on the other end. A recruiter watches later. See how the six layers of first-round screening fit together →

Frequently asked

Is HireVue or Paradox better for healthcare hiring?

It depends on the bottleneck. HireVue is stronger for assessing candidates, with video interviews, healthcare skill assessments and a voice AI Interviewer. Paradox is stronger for engaging and scheduling applicants over chat and SMS. Ployo is a third option that interviews every applicant live on video and returns a checkable verdict, from US$249 a month.

Does HireVue have an AI interviewer?

Yes. HireVue acquired the technology behind Hireguide in March 2026 and describes its AI Interviewer as a natural two-way voice conversation that runs 24/7 and integrates with 45+ ATSs.

Does Paradox do video interviews?

Paradox's video product captures recorded video responses inside the conversation and hosts in-browser live video interviews, and it connects to tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Its core product is the chat and SMS assistant, Olivia.

Who owns Paradox?

Workday. The acquisition completed on 1 October 2025, and Workday now presents a Candidate Experience agent powered by Paradox inside its recruiting suite.

What do HireVue and Paradox cost?

Neither publishes pricing. HireVue names Essential and Premium packages without figures, and Paradox routes pricing through sales. Ployo publishes US dollar plans from $249 a month with interviews included.

If you are past comparing

Most of what decides this is your own role, not the feature grid. Worked examples of AI screening applied to specific sectors are on the solutions pages, and the practical how-to side, including what compliance actually requires before someone starts a shift, is in the hiring guides.

If you would rather see the mechanics than read about them, the AI video interviewer page walks through an interview end to end.

The other half of the interview: the recruiter deciding what to do with it. Ployo hands over the recording, the transcript and the per-requirement verdict, so the call can be checked rather than trusted.
